TASNEEM SHAIKH

Contemporary Artist

Tasneem Shaikh is a contemporary artist. She is committed to painting since 2018.

As a child, Tasneem often expressed herself by scribbling and coloring in her parent’s apartment in Mumbai, India. In school, the weekly art class was the only course that excited her.

After university, in the spring of 2000, she registered in a boot camp to learn ceramic arts and canvas paintings. This inspired Tasneem to conduct art classes for art enthusiasts. However, after marriage, migration to Canada, and pressure from ever-increasing responsibilities at work, she took a long break from painting; until she started painting Peter’s birthday gift. Peter is a beautiful soul and a gifted artist. She started working on a silhouette, canvas painting of Peter meditating alongside his favorite teacup and kettle, under the blissful light of the full moon. She calls it, ‘The monk in the desert’.

On her journey to find herself she realized how much these paints mean to her, Tasneem bought a box of art supplies in July 2018 during the summer break at her sister’s new house in San Diego, California. Each room in this house welcomed her paintings and her sister shared, “now this house feels like a home”. During the course, Tasneem realized she does better with acrylics and mixed media. Her paintings include landscapes, abstracts, floral and feminist art. Over the years, Tasneem has gifted most of her paintings to friends, relatives and work colleagues. There is no stopping her now, and in fact, since 2018, Tasneem has completed over 100 paintings.

Since 2019, Tasneem has participated in art exhibitions conducted by World Art Dubai in 2022 and by Higher Colleges of Technology in 2019 and 2021.

In 2021, Tasneem completed a contemporary art course at University of Arts, London. She finds the experience liberating and realizes that expressing herself through paintings is an excellent means of cultivating her emotional growth. Tasneem finds solace while painting and feels a sense of healing from the distress of painful personal events.
